Counting down

Monday, December 24th, 2012

It’s Christmas Eve!!! I’m not sure about you, but I kinda feel like a little kid today. Part of me is also feeling a smidge on the guilty side for not posting last week, but I think everyone understands how it can be around the holidays. As I mentioned in my last post, I am testing the breadth of my creative talent by making quite a few of my gifts this year. It probably comes as no surprise that Pinterest was instrumental in inspiring this burst of “I can do that.” One element I did not anticipate was the DIY learning curve for a number of these projects. I’ll be sure to elaborate in greater detail on my Pinterest successes and failures after the holidays.

There still are a few loose ends to tie up so I’ll bid you adieu for now. Happy holidays!

Festive

Wednesday, December 12th, 2012

It’s that time of year! We may not have much in terms of snow, but I’m feeling quite festive at the moment. Today is going to be chock full of holiday DIY and I can’t wait to get started. Since these are mostly gifts for friends and family, I’ll have to wait until after the holidays have passed before I share pictures. In the meantime, here is some festive imagery to get me (and you) in the holiday spirit!

Ikat

Tuesday, December 4th, 2012

In case I haven’t mentioned it before, I have a MAJOR thing for Ikat fabrics. They are graphic, they are colorful, they are exotic, and simply sensational. Ikat (pronounced e-cot) is a dying technique utilizing a resist dyeing process (sorta like using rubber bands in tie dyeing). The yarns are strategically dyed prior to being woven, resulting in a fabulous striated pattern. This design has been known to various cultures for centuries, and it’s a hot trend you’re likely to see more of in 2013. Absolutely love it!

hello!

Sunday, December 2nd, 2012

Well hello! It feels like ages since I’ve written last… The past few months have been pretty busy, as you can probably tell from my drive-by posts of late. I hope you have enjoyed them nonetheless.

Overall, things are really good. Design work has been busy this fall. These projects include everything from simple color consultations all the way to major bathroom remodels. All this work is especially helpful as I am also in the midst of wedding planning. As a matter of fact, we are nearly at the 6-month marker to the big day! (I KNOW!)

Despite my enthusiasm to blast through the checklist of matrimonial To Do’s, I have been focused on work as well as the fast approaching holiday. We’ve agreed to a “small and simple” Christmas this year. Aren’t those the best anyway? I’m always down for a do-it-yourself project, so this is right up my alley. But once again we are back to the challenge of finding time to do it all, and the endless persuit of balance.

So what else is new? After celebrating November with mucho comfort-food, I have chosen to kick off December with my very first cleanse. (Here goes nothing!) I am excited for this opportunity to “reboot” for the new year.

I guess that’s it for now lovelies! Wishing you all the best.
