Snippets, II

Thursday, March 14th, 2013

First, I’ve got to say that I’m sorry for such a brief and ever-so-slightly lame post last week. Yes, things are busy but that is good! Today I thought I would offer a few snippets of all my “things in progress.”

Project 1: Front entry/laundry room renovation. This has been in design development for a while now, but it looks like construction is right around the corner!

Project 2: Kitchen reno. This active family can’t wait to tear down the wall currently separating their kitchen from the dining and living room areas.

Project 3: New office space. I recently helped a business get settled into their new office. These chairs worked perfectly with our palette.

Project 4: Another mudroom/laundry renovation. I have to admit, the storage solution for this mudroom is spectacular!

Project 5: Commercial restoration. This project has been under major construction since their groundbreaking ceremony I last posted on here. Today will actually be the first time the ladies and I have been able to enter the building for almost a year. Can’t wait to see the progress!

In other news… I’m working out. Excercise has always been one of those things that I’ve struggled to prioritize. With the wedding on the way, I have been following through pretty well on a morning exercise regime.

I’ve been practicing up-do’s. With a DIY wedding, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to at least entertain the thought of doing my own hair. While I am not 100% which direction to take, it has been fun learning how to style my hair differently. You’ve got to check out thesmallthingsblog.com. She’s fantastic!

I have a super productive day on tap so it’s time for me to go. See you again soon!

Organize It

Friday, January 28th, 2011

A common New Year’s resolution is to get organized and a great first place to start is by working on that troublesome closet. This especially works well this time of year because most people ended the holiday season with twice as much STUFF as they started with. So where does it go?

While some organizing strategies are universal, others need to be customized to individual storage problems. For instance, do you HATE folding clothes? If so, are you likely to fold your clothes? I doubt it. Also, think about the stuff you are storing. A woman with a shoe or purse collection will likely have different needs than an athletic family of five.

Baby It’s Cold Outside

Friday, January 14th, 2011

Mother Nature sure did hand the Northeast a heaping helping of winter weather this week. Snow bunnies and gents may be delighted with the recent accumulation, but everyone else has started planning their next tropical vacation.

Are you suffering from a bit of cabin fever? If you can’t escape the snow, why not make the most of your time indoors. Rearrange the furniture, tidy up the catch-all drawer, or clumsey closet.

Need inspiration? Or someone just to point you in the right direction? I can help get you going, cheer you on, or help every step of the way. Spring is still a few months away, what are you waiting for? Call or write today!

We All Shine On

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Well, I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: good design is about function just as much as it is about beauty. Such is the case when it comes to lighting.

An often overlooked element, lighting plays an important role as to how well a space supports the needs of our everyday activities. Just recently a friend asked me what she could do about poor lighting in her small kitchen. Great question!

Lighting works best when applied in layers: general, task, accent, and decorative. While most homes come equipped with general or ambient lighting, fewer incorporate essential task lighting. To remedy this situation, consider installing under cabinet lighting or adjustable recessed fixtures. For the best advice, however, invite me over for a consultation :)

Have you noticed a friend or family member hunched over the kitchen counter, struggling to see what they were doing? Or have you been startled by your own shadowy reflection while using a friends’ bathroom? Perhaps Suzy Q from your office has developed a reputation for wearing one blue shoe and one black shoe. These people may be suffering from poor lighting conditions. I can help homeowners overcome their lighting obstacles as well as refer a reputable electrician if necessary.

Conquering Clutter

Friday, June 11th, 2010

Probably every home or office has that catch-all drawer, table, or closet, but some cases of clutter are a bit more severe. The stack became a pile, the pile became a mountain, and the mountain grew out of control. Like watering Gremlins and feeding them after midnight, clutter can multiply to chaotic and destructive measures. One day you may step back and wonder, “what happened to my home?”

Clutter can rob someone of their energy, freedom, and living the life their soul intended. If you know a friend or relative who has some serious clutter issues, I ask that you simply plant the seed about working with a professional. This habit can be a lifetime in the making and will require a commitment from them to change. When they are ready and willing, I’d love to help them on their way to greatness.
