As I mentioned in last month’s post, I wasn’t expecting so many of these concepts to be derived from nature when I originally started. To remedy that scenario, August’s episode of Inspiration is Everywhere falls back to another submission from July. Thanks again to Laura and her drawer of colorful pens! I’d love to know what you think of this vibrant playroom.
Looking back to my childhood, I always loved to read and play in the clawfoot tub parked outside my third grade classroom. The curves of this cast iron felt cozier than our tub at home, and the idea of filling a “wet” space with pillows always intrigued me. Now that I think of it, my obsession with pillows goes back a long way. Just about every dream home I endlessly sketched had a room furnished exclusively with pillows – very “I Dream of Jeannie”, I suppose. But I digress…
For this playroom, I wanted to create a colorful space that felt happy and fun. Black and white polka-dot wallpaper dress each wall with the exception of a chalkboard accent to encourage creativity. Pint-sized molded modern chairs partner well with a white table on a colorful area rug. Light blue shelving offers storage for books, games, puzzles, and toys while a quirky lamp illuminates the space from overhead. Last but not least, the clawfoot tub overflows with a collection of jewel toned pillows and a textural throw. Overall, it’s fun space for kids without feeling too childish, and can easily be adapted as they mature.
