As we cruise into summer, June’s episode of Inspiration is Everywhere falls to the cheerful, free-spirited nasturtium. Designing a space around this perky little plant really came down to one thing: those leaves, or better yet, that tile. From there the “Modern Bohemian” kitchen concept took shape.
To hit the mark on a Bohemian interior, spaces need to emit a layered, mismatched, maximalist quality where every little trinket tells a story. Mixed finishes, a palette of earthy colors or jewel tones, and vintage furnishings all add to the eclectic, casual, dare I say hippie vibe that is Bohemian.
For this concept in particular, I dialed back the gypsy-ness by adding modern simplicity. Bohemian touches including the patinaed area rug, wanderlust wall art, brass partridge figurines, vintage barstool, woven pendant, houseplant and charming Smeg refrigerator are balanced by the clean lines of the modern bridge faucet, stainless undermount sink, tile backsplash, floating shelves, and quartz countertop featuring a waterfall edge. Rounded shapes were also chosen throughout to emphasize the rounded petals and leaves of our inspiration. Overall, the space feels happy, bright, with character in abundance.
