Oh November, where did you go? Between a week in Italy, a killer head cold, multiple projects in motion, and a heaping helping of Thanksgiving, I wasn’t sure where to land for this month’s chapter of Inspiration is Everywhere. Alas, leave it to Mother Nature (ok, pun intended) to come to the rescue once again. I hope you enjoy this autumn inspired Craftsman dining room.
Classic elements of a Craftsman interior include an earthy color palette, simple materials, patterns and textures inspired by nature, and an overall emphasis on honest craftsmanship. Where much of the Craftsman aesthetic is often represented architecturally (decorative beams, built-in’s, columns, fireplace surrounds, stair details, wainscoting, etc.) these furnishings and accessories embody an Arts N’ Crafts vibe all in their own right.
The primary pieces of this space, namely the dining table and sideboard, both contribute to the Craftsman style with their characteristic lines, heft, wood tone, and minimal ornamentation. The handsome area rug grounds the space with autumn tones of brown, cream, rust, and burgundy all while cooperating with it’s more modern counterpart – a geometric wallpaper repeating the toothed edge of our leafy inspiration. A gorgeous chandelier of calcite blocks captures the essence of the Arts N’ Crafts movement in a unique and unpredictable way. Upholstered side chairs and floor length drapery add to the warmth and coziness of the room in neutral fabrics. As for the finishing touches, decorative accents were selected for their simplicity, sincerity, and natural elegance – true to any Craftsman home.
