Apparently I missed the memo that September was the month for European travel. No less than 8 friends embarked on adventures to explore Switzerland, France, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Scotland, and more. Given the circumstances, it seemed only fitting to taste their travels with this month’s Inspiration is Everywhere.
To create this elegant “European” interior, careful attention was given to balance traditional, primitive, and rustic details successfully. Architectural features, such as the minimalist fireplace and rustic mantle, seem perfectly on-point for our Swiss inspiration. A classic Chesterfield sofa, typically traditional in nature, adds a sense of raw simplicity in its deconstructed form. Rustic details represented in the hammered iron chandelier, weathered accent tables and lamp bring beauty, honesty, and history to the space. The louvered sideboard and olive tree are effortlessly Old World while velvet drapes, pillows and cashmere throw offer texture and sophistication. A modern armchair adds just the right touch of variety and contrast with its angular lines, reminiscent of the stairs and pitched roof of our chalet. Lastly, it’s worth noting the repetition of rounded forms, as seen in the arched entry, help to create a sense of harmony and rhythm.
